The boys from Chief Navaho represent a new movement in hip hop we are seeing emerge from- of all places- Calgary, Alberta. Intelligent lyrics are just the tip of the iceberg with these guys. Brothers Sean and Matthew Sinclair spearhead this project and bring to the table a flow that is wholly unique. Matthew, the younger of the duo, rhymes with insight beyond his years as his older bro provides liquidity and sensuality with his controlled and smooth vocal talent. Their first album titled Lofthead drops December 21st, 2011. Check out Sean’s youtube here for more mind blowing videos and album sneak peaks from this greatly anticipacted and long awaited hip hop anomaly.

in anticipation for Eskmo performing this Saturday in Calgary I could not reisist posting this video. Last November I caught Eskmo and had a moment of quick introduction as I thanked him for a spectacular night and rather intriguing show. He had opened for Beats Antique, but to me this was the main event. Producing and recording live, using his own vocals to boot, Eskmo offers something that can not be put on the same playing field as any other dj/producer I’ve ever heard. There is something decidely fluid about his rolling melodies and gripping beats that has me feeling as if I’ve dropped into a glowing cave with water dropping peacefully from the damp ceiling and the trickle of a buried river floating past my feet. Okay so maybe that is a bit much to start fantasizing mystical caves.. but his music does ground me in a different world and enthralls each of my senses.
In addition, Brendan Angelides aka Eskmo showcases his creativity through thoughtfully producing videos which include We Got More (as posted here), Cloudlight, Land and Bones.
The recent release of the We Got MOre/Moving Glowstream remix EP has me waiting enxiously for the weekend. Saturday, September 24th Eskmo returns to Calgary to perform at the Republik. Without a doubt I will be there to share in a few flails and hopefully have a chance to grab a word or two. Fingers-crossed
